TENA TENA CAMP
AS CLOSE TO NATURE A BUSH CAMP CAN BE
This remote and small camp enjoys a stunning location in the northern, exclusive Nsefu Sector of South Luangwa National Park, on the broad, meandering Luangwa River that forms endless oxbows. Tena Tena means ’temporary home’ and the atmosphere at this wonderfully remote, high quality camp certainly contributes to this. Only six tents make up this camp. Being remote and the only safari operator in the Nsefu sector means you will have the scenery all to yourselves. Tena Tena offers a genuinely intimate safari experience of extremely high standards.
Tena Tena camp is open from the end of May through the end of October.
ACCOMMODATIONS
A beautiful grove of mahogany trees provides shade for the six large custom-made tents. The tents are very private with generous space between them. Each tent has its own view onto a magnificent stretch of the Luangwa River. The en-suite bathrooms are spacious and open to the elements, designed to copy nature with curved walls around trees. The color palette is one of simple subtle colors with views from every facility. Each tent has it own veranda with comfortable sitting areas and excellent views onto the river.
Dining
From the thatched roof dining room and bar, guests can watch elephants, hippos and antelopes on the riverbank. Dinner begins with drinks around the campfire then moves on to the dining table, beautifully set either in the main area or outside under the Stars of Zambia.
ACTIVITIES

Available daily activities include a choice of game drives, safari walks, morning and night drives including picnics in the bush. Typically, there are two activities per day, each lasting around three to four hours and led by expert guides, but all-day drives are also available.
Driving Safari
Game drives are conducted in open, 4-wheel drive vehicles led by knowledgeable safari guides. Special game sighting seats provide excellent opportunities for photography. Set out in the afternoon, watch the sunset over the river then continue the drive with powerful spotlights. The nocturnal world of the bush is an enchanting world where one can often witness owls and genets, hunting lions and graceful leopards.
Walking Safari
Some of the regions close to Tena Tena Camp are wide open and flat – making it ideal for big-game walking safaris. Here one can find old lagoons, excellent wildlife sightings and lots of open space. This is the only way to genuinely discover the secrets of the bush. All walking safaris are led by an experienced naturalist guide and accompanied by an armed game scout.

Day trips can be organized to visit Kawaza Village and School.
WILDLIFE
The South Luangwa National Park boasts verdant floodplains, mopane woodlands and indigenous hardwood forests, and a mighty river that attracts more than 60 different species of mammals, including elephant, huge herds of buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe, and hippo. The South Luangwa National Park is a natural utopia and one of Africa’s truly great wildlife sanctuaries. Two of the more interesting species of game – Thornicroft’s Giraffe and Cookson’s Wildebeest – are endemic to the Luangwa Valley. The Park hosts 420 species of birds.
PHOTOGRAPHY
The Nsefu sector has been Zambia’s photographic treasure for more than 50 years. This is where the first photographic safari camp in Zambia was established in the early 1950’s. The Nsefu Sector was recognized then as a phenomenal area for photography, and it still is. The Nsefu sector is a very remote area within the South Luangwa National Park, so nature is exclusively yours and makes photography very rewarding. The scenery is beautiful and wildlife plentiful. One of the photography highlights has to be the incredible displays of color that the carmine bee-eaters present along the banks of the Luangwa River.
