The Saxon is an exclusive, international award-winning Boutique Hotel and Spa nestled in the beautiful, tranquil Sandhurst suburb of Sandton. An oasis in Johannesburg, just a 40-minute drive from OR Tambo International Airport, this fashionable hotel makes an exquisite statement with its African elegance and exceptional personal attention to detail. Saxon offers a unique and unforgettable stay, having achieved world renown for outstanding and unparalleled South African hospitality.

Originally a private home, the hotel has now achieved the well-deserved status of a home away from home. The Saxon has seen history written within its walls; having been the temporary residence of former South African President Nelson Mandela, for 6 months in 1990, while still a private property, during which time he edited his autobiography, ”Long walk to Freedom”.

Many visiting celebrities have chosen this ultimate venue for celebrating those special occasions. The crystal clear waters of the infinity pool, set against the picturesque rolling lawns and immaculately landscaped gardens, serve as an idyllic backdrop for such events.

This splendid jewel, surrounded by six acres of undulating lush gardens, offers a luxurious retreat in which to relax in elegant style. With the Saxon’s legendary reputation for discreet, personal service and impeccable standards, guests are assured a truly unforgettable experience.

Saxon Hotel boasts 20 luxury suites, 3 presidential suites and 1 platinum suite. There are 3 Villas nestling in luxuriant gardens that offer an additional 29 tastefully appointed individual suites. Each villa has a pool, terrace, lounge, boardroom/dining room, and satellite kitchen with butler service. The villas offer guests an informal, more personal, home-away-from-home atmosphere.

Accommodation at the Saxon is designed to satisfy the most discerning traveler. The suites are well appointed with large bay windows with views either of the gardens and the city skyline, or of the pool area. They are luxuriously furnished with open-plan bedrooms featuring tastefully decorative touches of African elegance, which flow into the exquisitely furbished bathrooms. Each suite has a comfortable designated lounge with a dining area as well as state-of-the-art business facilities.

The three Presidential Suites are spacious and generously apportioned, with large windows and doors leading out onto private balconies. The suites are palatial and feature their own entrance hall, guest bathroom, and separate lounge and dining area that open out onto a balcony. Each suite comes fully equipped with a butler’s kitchen.

The Saxon redefines the term “ultimate escape” with its superb Spa and Studio; a peaceful retreat in which to unwind and enjoy tranquil ambience and quiet, discreet service – everywhere, from the privacy of the treatment gazebos to the various relaxation areas. The Saxon Spa and Studio offer a full range of spa treatments, from massages, customized facials, spa manicures and pedicures, to more exclusive treatments to rejuvenate and revitalize the mind, body and soul – all provided by top therapists in their fields. The hotel features a fully supervised gym and a magnificent 920m² swimming pool. Elevated above the pool is a terrace overlooking the gardens, with the city of Johannesburg as a splendid backdrop.

The extensive conferencing, banqueting and special events facilities at the Saxon are all equipped with built-in state-of-the-art electronics to cater for both corporate and private functions.

Conferences can be held either in the Convention Lounge, with seating for a large number of delegates, or in the tiered 30-seat Auditorium, which is fully equipped with cutting-edge technology for high quality presentations and video conferences. Boardroom-style conferences are hosted in the dining library, and two further boardrooms provide ample accommodation for executive conferences for up to thirty delegates.

The Saxon redefines the art of celebrating life and its commemorative milestones. The Convention Lounge is an ideal setting for hosting romantic weddings or for celebrating anniversaries in outstanding Saxon style, as well as for cocktail parties and formal banquets with a distinctive flourish and flair. Smaller private functions may be held in the dining library.
