Safely cosseted in modern tented suites and pampered with the warm-hearted service that embodies the soul of Africa. This sophisticated and intimate Camp lies sheltered under a canopy of trees overlooking the seasonal Timbavati riverbed. Located along the border of the world-renowned Kruger National Park, Ngala Private Game Reserve is famous for its high densities of elephant, buffalo and rhino populations, as well as for its African wild dogs.
Ngala was the first private game reserve to be incorporated into the Kruger National Park and has exclusive rights to traverse across almost 15 000 hectares, 37 100 acres, of one of the richest and most strategically important wildlife regions on the African continent.
Ngala Tented Camp is open year around.
ACCOMMODATIONS
Accommodation is in the form of nine tented spacious suites with en-suite bathroom with bathtub and an invigorating outdoor shower. Raised on platforms, the Camp peering out onto the banks of the seasonal Timbavati River from the shelter of dense indigenous trees, offers the romance of canvas combined with simple sophistication. The sights and sounds of the bush provide a gentle backdrop to life at Ngala, as the patterns of African life go on around. The main lodge is situated between dense forest and the sandy bed of the Timbavati River, and the extensive viewing decks provide guests front row views of game wandering down to the waters to drink.
Dining
Ngala offers Pan-African cooking with delightful flair. This unique type of cuisine is a blend of traditional and ethnic African recipes and cooking methods, presented with a modern and characteristic flavor all its own. The dishes are both a delight to the palate and to the eye. Spices and aromas, for which Africa is famous, such as vanilla, saffron, coriander and cumin, delicately complement each dish – from the vegetable soups and fire-roasted meats to the homemade ice creams. Ngala offers moonlit bush dinners and bush sundowners, as well as bush banquets served under the Stars of South Africa in the spectacular settings and a fairytale atmosphere – perfect for an unforgettable feast.
CONSERVATION
In one of Africa’s most innovative conservation partnership agreements, an annual lease, traversing fee and percentage of Ngala’s profits is paid to the National Parks Trust to promote conservation projects throughout South Africa. Recycling of all waste is a key aspect of the lodge’s responsible tourism. Ngala has a program whereby people in the rural areas, with no previous work experience can participate in lodge operations. After an internship period, these individuals are presented with a certificate that affords them employment opportunities in the industry.

With its open bush, Ngala guarantees exclusive opportunities for game spotting under the guidance of expertly trained rangers.
Driving Safari
Twice a day game drives in open Land Rovers in an area that shares an unfenced border with the world-famous Kruger National Park. Ngala offers both off-road and night game drives. On exciting night drives you can see nocturnal animals, adding a dramatic dimension to your safari.
Walking Safari
Leisurely bush walks in between game drives are offered; take a walk within easy distance of the lodge and experience the sights, smells and sounds of the African bush, together with an armed ranger who will accompany you and share his vast knowledge of the local fauna and flora. At an additional charge Ngala offers walking safaris with open air sleep out.
WILDLIFE
A spectacular diversity of wildlife moves through this immense wilderness. At Ngala, you can experience remarkably close encounters with breeding herds of elephant and buffalo. See black and white rhinos, giraffes, spotted hyenas and hordes of antelopes, along with the great cats and occasionally, wild dogs. Ngala, which means “lion” in the local Shangaan language, lives up to its name, supporting several prides. However, it is even more famous for excellent viewing of the more elusive leopard, offering regular sightings of mainly females with their young.
PHOTOGRAPHY
At an additional charge Ngala offers private tracking and photographic safaris. Ngala Abundant species diversity includes elephant, spotted hyena, leopard, large buffalo herds, rhino, hippo and the rare pangolin and packs of African wild dog, Ngala is one of few reserves to offer regular opportunities to view and photograph this rare animal and its fascinating social structure.
