RIDING SAFARI

A horseback adventure is a unique safari, reminiscent of safaris of old, traversing a variety of quintessential game-rich East African landscapes, with Mount Kilimanjaro as the backdrop, or on the open planes of the Maasai Mara. To meander amongst Africa’s iconic majestic mammals, makes a horseback safari a truly indescribable experience. Read more »

East Africa is classic safari country: here you can enjoy half-day horse rides from Ol Donyo Lodge, or join a multi-day luxury mobile horse safari, with a guaranteed set departure, to the Amboseli or within the majestic Chyulu Hills in Kenya. You can also choose to ride in the wildlife-rich Maasai Mara and exclusive Mara Conservancy, while staying at the iconic Mara Plains Camp or Mara Expedition Camp. Either way, you will be riding the absolutely finest of horses, well-trained and fit to handle a diverse range of situations, depending on the terrain, the wildlife and on the experience levels of the rider. You can ride for a couple of hours, for an entire day, or join a luxurious multi-day horse safari – although the latter has specific requirements with only intermediate to advanced riders being eligible to participate.

WALKING SAFARI

If one is looking for an adventure on foot, we would strongly recommend a life-changing bush tracking experience with specially trained guides. These walks provide a rare, eye-level perspective of the African landscape and its wildlife. Walking safaris were pioneered in Zambia, which remains one of the few areas where this type of safari can be truly enjoyed: safaris that ensure the highest quality of guiding and safety standards at all times.

CANOEING SAFARI

The Lower Zambezi is famous for its spectacular canoeing. Led by an expert guide, this is a unique and magical way of viewing wildlife, as you are able to explore the banks of the river where game can be seen and appreciated from a totally different angle. No experience or particular strength is required – it is an effortless drift, as the flow of the Zambezi swishes the canoes along slowly and silently and a feeling of total tranquility descends. The only sounds heared are those of the African bush. It is an unbeatable safari experience and undoubtedly one of the greatest wildlife adventures on Earth.

BALLOON SAFARI

For those looking for a wildlife viewing adventure of a different kind, Hot Air Balloon Safaris over the Maasai Mara is something truly unforgettable. The adventure begins just before dawn. Departure is from a perfect natural launch site, flames from the hot air balloon burners light the darkness as the crews inflate their craft. The first, pink lights of sunlight flicker across the skies as the hot air balloon fills, then rises. Suspended in a basket beneath the rainbow-colored canopy, you’re off for a game-viewing adventure with an entirely different perspective. What amazes most first-time balloonists is the absolute stillness: the silence as you float above the plains, the forest and the rivers of the Maasai Mara. Even if you’ve flown elsewhere, this is a unique experience. The flight lasts an hour or so, drifting wherever the air currents take you, and with ample opportunities for photography and video filming. Then your Kenyan Hot Air Balloon Safari finishes with a flourish. In the time honored tradition of balloon flights the world over, you toast your return to earth with a champagne breakfast, cooked wherever you land. The Balloon Safari ends with some leisurely game viewing on the way back to Camp.

The Zambezi River offers some of the most spectacular freshwater sport fishing in the world. The camp supplies both regular and fly-fishing equipment for strictly catch-and-release fishing. You can fish for the world-famous Tiger fish and the Vundu catfish. The “Tiger”, a relative of the infamous piranha, has large carnivorous teeth and can grow to weigh as much as 15kg. It is well known for its strength and spectacular ”leaping out of the water” fighting performance. The Vundu, a giant catfish, is the largest fish in the Zambezi River, growing to well over 50kg.
